In Space drops you into the genre sometimes called “survivors-like” — top-down, one soldier, and a swarm of alien bugs that starts small and never really stops growing. You move, you shoot, you get stronger as you go, and so does the swarm. That escalating tug-of-war is the entire game.
The premise is played for a laugh — you’re apparently on some kind of space pest-control assignment — but the mechanics are straightforwardly tense. Bugs come from every direction at once, positioning matters more than aim, and getting surrounded ends runs faster than any single tough enemy does. As you clear waves you pick up upgrades that make your soldier hit harder or survive longer, and reading which upgrades actually help against the current wave pattern is the real skill.
Made by Piti and running since December 2022, it’s built for the exact loop this genre is known for: die, learn one thing about the swarm’s pattern, restart, last a little longer.
How to play In Space
Move your soldier around the arena while fighting off waves of bugs that grow larger and more aggressive over time. Defeating enemies earns upgrades that make you stronger. The goal is simply to survive as long as possible against a swarm that never stops coming.
Controls
- Cursor - Aim
- Left Mouse Button - Fire
- W/Up Arrow - Move Up
- S/Down Arrow - Move Down
- A/Left Arrow - Move Left
- D/Right Arrow - Move Right
Tips
- Keep moving constantly — standing still is how the swarm surrounds you
- Pick upgrades that cover your current weak point, not just the biggest number on offer
- Open space is safer than corners once the bug count climbs; corners cut off your escape routes
- Early waves are for learning spawn directions, not for maximizing kills
