Fractal Combat X puts you in the cockpit of a fighter jet working aerial missions for a futuristic force on another world, and it takes the flying seriously in a way a lot of browser combat games don’t bother with. Targets are marked by green arrows around your crosshair; get one in view and it highlights, hold your aim until you get a lock, then fire. Enemy missiles show up the same way in red, so reading the sky around you matters as much as your own aim.
Missions come in three flavors: Story for a structured progression, Quick Play for a fast credits run, and Daily missions that rotate and sometimes demand a specific jet or upgrade before you can even start one. Whatever you fly, credits earned from completing missions go toward new jets in the shop or upgrades split across five systems — Engine for speed, Missiles for power, Control for handling, Armor for defense, and Electronics for capacity. Take too much damage in a mission and you’re shot down, restarting that mission from scratch.
Developed by OYK Games, it’s built with a genuine flight-sim lean under the arcade surface — the studio recommends keyboard over the on-screen touch UI for a reason, and once you feel the difference in a dogfight, it’s obvious why.

How to play Fractal Combat X
Fly your jet using keyboard controls, keeping enemy targets — marked by green arrows — inside your crosshairs until you get a lock, then fire missiles to take them down. Watch for red arrows warning of incoming enemy fire. Complete missions to earn credits, which you can spend on new jets or upgrades to Engine, Missiles, Control, Armor, and Electronics between runs.
Controls
- W / Up arrow Ascend (or descend if inverted)
- S / Down arrow Descend (or ascend if inverted)
- A / Left arrow Steer left
- D / Right arrow Steer right
- Spacebar Fire missiles
Tips
- Fly in unpredictable patterns rather than straight lines — a steady flight path is the easiest thing for enemy missiles to hit
- Dive when an incoming red-arrow missile gets close; altitude changes throw off its lock
- Check a Daily mission's requirements before queuing it — some demand a specific jet or upgrade tier you may not have yet
- Spend early credits on Armor or Control before cosmetic upgrades; surviving longer earns more credits than a marginally faster jet
FAQ
Is Fractal Combat X available outside the browser?
Yes, alongside the browser version there's a mobile release, handled separately by NEWTYPE K.K.
Should I use mouse or keyboard?
Either works, but the on-screen touch controls used for mouse play get cluttered in a real dogfight — keyboard is the more precise option once you're past the first few missions.
What happens if my jet takes too much damage?
You're shot down and have to restart that mission, so upgrading Armor early is worth it if you're struggling to finish a level.
